THE GUIDELINES
Submit an Article for Publication!
Deadline 10th June 2023 (send drafts to Edwin already in May!)
(adapted from Forum Submission Guidelines)
As English teachers, you’re part of a world-wide community of practice. A big part of what sparks innovation in our work is the collaboration of teachers, students, researchers, and other professionals from around the world. Now that you’re officially starting your teaching practice you have the exciting opportunity to be part of this innovation, share your work with an international community, practice your written English, and maybe impress future employers with a publication on your CV.
What is the article?
Each Teaching Techniques article should highlight one example of an original practice the author has used. However, the technique should be applicable in a variety of countries.
Authors should provide a brief description of the context in which the technique has been used in order to give basic background information and a point of reference for readers.
The purpose of the article should be to provide guidance and direction so that other teachers can implement the technique in their own classrooms.
Techniques should be of maximum assistance to lesser-experienced teachers. This means procedures need to be spelled out clearly. Write instructions in the imperative.
Techniques can target a specific group of learners (of a certain age, skill level, etc.). But a technique that has been used with, for example, young learners in the author’s country should be transferable to young-learner classrooms in other places around the world.
Articles should be approximately 500 to 2,000 words.
Formatting and style:
All pages should be double-spaced and have margins of about 3 centimeters (1 inch).
Text citations and references are not required, but credit must be given if the technique is derived from another. Citations and references should use the Chicago Manual of Style.
Provide a title for the article and a short bio statement (one sentence) about the authors(s).
Send submissions as email attachments to etforum@state.gov. Put “Teaching Techniques” in the subject line. Include a statement saying that the work is unpublished.
All articles are due by (date).
